Thing only thing wrong with this book is that it ended. Wow, what a story. I like to read slowly but it was not possible with this book. Great characters, twisty plot, believable therories , well at least to me. This is the third book I've read by TJ Brearton and I will be happy to read more.Product details

GONE a gripping crime thriller full of suspense edition by TJ BREARTON Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Before reading any book I always read the reviews, and this book certainly had high reviews...I can't help but wonder if it was new years eve or saint Patrick's day when they read this book (must have been the ale) usually I read 3 books in a week, well this book took me 3 weeks to even read and I am done half way through it! Too many characters, too many plots, it's a confusing story line then never seems to come together and it is taking you down many roads. With that said, I am now taking two as prime, deleting this book and off to my next...hopefully I picked a winner!!!
This is my first read by this author. It was a suggested read and I am pleased. This author took topics that are typically not spoken of and researched and developed them. First you very seldom read and believe what you are reading about FBI conspiracy and the way they go about things illegally and cover up actions. This ex FBI agent was just about destroyed due to their tactics. But he didn't give up even fighting his on psychosis. A determined investigative journalist won't let things go either and with some twists and turns it's all brought forward into the open. You will read this book and think about what goes on around you in today's world. You will question all the media posts and wonder just what our Government agencies are up to. Very well written. I look forward to reading more by this author.
I have to say that this was not a favorite of mine. It held my interest, but I found some things to be odd. One thing that annoyed me almost from the beginning was the idea that a person could take a fresh legal pad and, in the matter of less than two hours, fill the entire thing up with notes from one interview. As a legal professional who works in plaintiff law, I can assure you that the idea of such is completely unrealistic. I almost put the book down then, but had to remind myself it was just entertainment. Plus, I was very curious about the conclusion. The conclusion did surprise me. I think that was the best thing about this book.
An investigative reporter and his entire family go missing from a small town in New York. The investigation is led by a dectective in the newly created detective division . He was a detective in the District of Columbia where he maintained an impressive "clearance rate" but also made an enemy of the FBI who he accused of framing an innocent man to cover up its shortcomings. The detective has considerable mental baggage. As one races through this exciting mystery, the problem is to sort out who is truthful and who is reliable. This is a fast paced thriller that only requires a modest effort in suspending disbelief to enjoy.
Spoiler Alert. Let's start with the good, and there's a lot of it. I love books written with an unreliable narrator, which much of this is. When do we realize he's unreliable, and just how unreliable is he? Are his gut instincts about people a part of his police training or something else?
All this plays out against a real page-turner of a story as the police race to find a missing family. Couldn't put it down. Character development of the deputies was perfect and we'll greet them like old friends in the next installment.
Now, the bad. As someone else noted, the ending felt rushed. After the family is discovered (you'll have to wait to find out in what condition) the focus is back on our primary narrator, Detective Rondeau. How much of what has happened to him is real? We're never told and we don't know why. People are still getting sick at the end and it isn't dealt with in any manner. Will the undercover hero uncover the story?
It felt like the author got tired of the story and wanted to wrap it up, leaving a lot of loose ends in favor of a quick show of farewell for Rondeau and wrapping up a story from his past rather than the story we read.
Again, T.J. Brearton draws me in immediately. A fast paced read that had me questioning each twist and turn in the book. His characters are complex but his writing allows me to not only want to get to know them, but also to understand their faults and motivations, and their interactions with others. The plot had me wondering where it was taking me and lead me to a very satisfying and somewhat surprising conclusion. Well done!
I decided to step away from the normal popular authors I've been reading and who've been quite disappointing lately. I ran across this one and glad I did. It took me only a couple of days to read that is how good it was. Great book - great storyline with an unsuspecting twists towards the end. Glad I found a new author to enjoy.
Thing only thing wrong with this book is that it ended. Wow, what a story. I like to read slowly but it was not possible with this book. Great characters, twisty plot, believable therories , well at least to me. This is the third book I've read by TJ Brearton and I will be happy to read more.
